The new 2017 Ignis

Does anyone have one of these yet. If you have might we have some comments of your experience. The spec and price looks good but would be interested in opinions on build quality etc.

we have a few in at work as showroom and demo models and a few at the prep centre with plates on the vehicle is made in japan so the component parts are usually put together very well. havent seen one being driven away yet though .

I am glad to hear that they are built in Japan because I had heard that they were being built by Maruti in India. That did not give a lot of confidence about quality.

This should really be in the new Ignis section but for some reason I do not have permission to post there. So I will continue here. Yesterday I looked at one of these in the tin and it looks interesting and good value for money. Just a couple of observations. First why is it that car companies think we need bright colours all over the place in the interior, it looks cheap? Second, after looking at the spec why can't I get one with 4 wheel drive without all the bells and whistles? I don't need the complication of an electric motor and battery and associated charging system, I don't need a forward looking camera that applies the brakes for me. or engine stop start. I will wait and see what happens to this model later on in its life cycle.

As I understand it the electric motor is also the starter motor and alternator which simplifies the design a little, I like that concept although I can't see it adding more than a couple of bhp, most probably less. The rest is here to stay - it will all be compulsory in a few years in the EU and the UK will probably follow suit.

Yes please ... so would I ! I looked at new Ignis the other day as both wife and I like elevated driving position of new Ignis. I mentioned this when collecting our VW top of range HIGH up! after its 4-year service and MoT (had it from new, with almost every extra available) . I was very surprised to hear one of our local VW Dealership Service receptionists say quite openly that he was a big fan of Japanese cars even though he worked for VW. With the new Ignis he said 'You get what you see... Excellent value for money BUT the inside is not VW quality".
I have the following quote by 'Snuggles' on the VW Users Forum 18 Feb 2017: "Had a look at the new Suzuki Ignis which looks fun but the quality of the materials used in the cabin just nowhere near the up! Ruled out pretty much every other small car on the market for one reason or another..."

Shame the auto version has only an ASG gearbox (similar to what's on the auto up! - which our local VW dealership (and it's a big one) won't stock. At least our 13 year old Wagon R has a 'proper' auto box.

Is that a matter of preference, or is the box technically inferior?

I'd say it's a matter of preference - but having said that, it's something one needs to be very sure about before making a big purchase. A friend has just bought a used Skoda Citygo and is happy with the ASG She is registered disabled and is used to a Smart car auto. Another friend and her husband love their Smart car auto but say their children hate it.
A lady near here returned here brand new up! auto to our dealership because she hated it. She never tried one because they don't stock it; I had to go to the Skoda dealership to try it. I think I'd have mastered it but my wife has never yet driven an auto so I didn't feel that was right for us.

Is that the same principle as the Suzuki AGS?
I was concerned I'd hate it and I too never had the chance to test drive one before I bought it. I was fully expecting to have to take the car back as well.
Now I am using one I can say it works about 97% like a regular (whatever that is) auto. It has five gears so it was a novelty at first having so many plus it shows which gear is on which is also a curiosity. You just have to drive it unconsciously to make it almost 100% like a regular auto.
The words a techie said to me - he was used to driving them back and forth for customers - it takes a few moments to get used to it and never a truer word was said.
Autowise, I switch from my Suzuki to my Mitsubishi daily and don't even notice if there is a difference.
Not wanting to upset manual lovers (after all I was a manual head once) but now for me anything is better than manual.
